We’ve discussed the famous Burning Man event quite a few times in the past (2011, 2010, 2007, 2006) as Google often features aerial imagery from the event in Google Earth. In fact, by using the historical imagery feature in the Black Rock, NV area you can find imagery from many of their events over the past few years.
This year’s festival begins tomorrow and Google has gone even further and created a detailed map of every street at the event. The roads are viewable in Google Earth, but are easier to use in Google Maps in this case.
You can see it for yourself in this map on Google Maps, or read more on Google Maps Mania.
About Mickey Mellen
Mickey has been using Google Earth since it was released in 2005, and has created a variety of geo-related sites including Google Earth Hacks. He runs a web design firm in Marietta, GA, where he lives with his wife and two kids.
That’s fine and dandy, but the street map is aligned with the imagery from 2012. The exact location of Black Rock City varies each year, so when the 2013 imagery is entered, the streets will be in the wrong spot.
If you want to see my desert drawings from last years Burning Man, follow the above link, turn it on satellite, and go out into the desert at 10:00 and Laissez-faire. ~MLW
