Any interest in new posts?

June 23, 2021

GEB logoI’ve been considering writing some new posts (just a few now and then) about what’s been going on with further development of Google Earth applications (for mobile, the web, desktop, and VR), and for the rich Google-developed dataset that continues to grow at an amazing pace.

Would there be any reader interest in that? If so, please leave comments below in this post if you would like new posts.

Also, on an administrative note, I’ve changed the blog over from Google’s Feedburner – which is being retired from active support. I’m using Follow.it as an RSS service because they offer the e-mail subscription in a way similar to Feedburner.

About Frank Taylor

Frank Taylor started the Google Earth Blog in July, 2005 shortly after Google Earth was first released. He has worked with 3D computer graphics and VR for many years and was very impressed with this exciting product. Frank completed a 5.5 year circumnavigation of the earth by sailboat in June 2015 which you can read about at Tahina Expedition, and is a licensed pilot, backpacker, diver, and photographer.

I was pleasantly surprised to see your post on the new google earth pro update pop up in my RSS feed. I probably wouldn’t have learned about it if it wasn’t for your post! So yes, I’m down for the odd new post.

Always interested in new posts, sure. GE is alive and kicking, and still the important resource that it’s always been. I would expect this blog to be the relevant source of information just as it was before its downtime. Quality doesn’t fade.

yes please. been visiting the site every now and then as there is no other source of information about Google Earth phenomena. Chrome version is getting updates on regular basis I think. VR version would so awesome if it only have all the options that desktop/Chrome versions have.

Yes, Please add me to your blog feed. I am particularly interested in GE VR for wireless VR and I’m hopeful this will eventually be possible. In the meantime we are scanning up to 1sqKm of real-places and building 3d-walkable models for use by 65+ year olds in social VR walks. People can be geographically separated and can meet in embodied presence in our 3d models and chat and explore just as in real-life. We have done this with this model https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/bom-jesus-de-monte-f8d48dc414c14228ae797c5a26927624 and three of us in Oxford London and Brussels met in the model and explored it together. Great fun.
Your blog post could be a great help
    Thank you

Yes would be interested very much. A lot of updates happened to Chrome version since last post but those are shadow updates and cant find any patchnotes for those. If only the VR version have so much possibilities…
