Traveling through Romania and Georgia with Google Earth

GEB reader “fjk” recently biked through Romania and Georgia and did an excellent job of showcasing his trip in Google Earth.

fjk and his friend visited Kutaisi, borjomi, Vardzia and various other cities. They recorded the trip via a Garmin 62s GPS unit, and then loaded all of the images into a single Google Earth file. It’s fairly large, at around 29MB, but it’s a fun file to explore in Google Earth. You can download that KMZ file here.

You can also view the embedded version on his website. It’s a great way to capture, re-live and share a trip like that.

Great work, fjk!

  1. I am PISSED off, I apparently bought this, as a roofing contractor thinking I could virtually measure roofs, I am getting NO WHERE, the version I log onto is the SAME as the free version, I want a REFUND, there are a million other programs I can use for what I need to do…..SOMEHOW, I cannot contact Google anyway shape or form, all the areas I have looked, I might just have to call credit card company to cancel, spent hours on this, watching useless tutorials for what I need / bought program for. VERY UNHAPPY

Kim — What exactly did you purchase? Google Earth Pro? As a roofing contractor, I agree that the standard Google Earth would be sufficient for you.
