New Google Earth Imagery – February 25, 2014

February 25, 2014

It appears that Google has just pushed out a fresh batch of imagery. Thanks to sharp-eyed GEB readers ‘Schorsch’ and ‘Munden’ for being the first to let us know about it.

tehran

Unlike some of the other recent updates, this imagery isn’t yet in the “classic” Google Maps. As a result, you can compare Google Earth to Google Maps to determine what is new; the fresh imagery is already in Google Earth, but the old imagery is still in Google Maps. If you compare the two side-by-side and they’re not identical, that means that you’ve found a freshly updated area in Google Earth!

Some of the updated areas include:

  • Bosnia and Herzegovina: Bihac
  • China: Haipo, Suixi, Dinghai
  • Germany: Hamburg
  • Greece: Aspropirgos
  • India: Mumbai, Hyderabad, Madhurawada, Agra, Nani Rajasthali
  • Iran: Tehran, Bandar Abbas, Bushehr, Bandergaah
  • Mexico: Matamoros and Tolentino
  • Pakistan: Karachi, Lahore (partial), Township, Faisalabad, Darra, Hattar, Satellite Town
  • Russia: Sochi, Adler
  • Serbia: Belgrade
  • Ukraine: Sevastopol

If you find any other updated areas, please leave a comment and let us know!

Why is the zoom effect no longer seemless anymore in some areas like Albany New York.
I’m mad that Google is ruining the pretty earth effect.

  20. GoogleEarthUser says

    February 26, 2014 at 4:04 pm

    @Jonahrf

    I agree with you.
Take a look at Rio De Janeiro in Brazil.
That annoying rectangle is clearly visible.
Zooming in at Buenos Aires is no longer nice anymore
There are probably thousands of examples.
Google really needs to clean this up

    • Leonardo Leidi says

      February 27, 2014 at 7:37 am

In Buenos Aires, if you deactivate 3D render buildings, the rectangle dissapear. It is just in the edge of the rendering surface. I suppose it is a mistake with this application. I hope Google fixes this soon!!

many people are complaining about the google attitude to turn almost all images into a brown or bright white abstract. Competitors like Bing or Yandeks or Yahoo are able to handel the original Digital Globe stuff smoothly. Google simply don’t care. Change to Bing

Netherlands: basically all of North Holland province with 10/2013 imagery, but in some towns older (aerial) imagery remains the default. I hope this paves the way for more recent imagery, as most of the Netherlands still has low-res 2005 imagery.

Is the no new “latest_update.kml” nor “imagery_update.kml” reflecting the new maps? The KML are still framing the maps as of Janurary 21st….

    • DocDix says

      March 3, 2014 at 5:05 am

I confirm still nothing new to see in file:
      http://mw1.google.com/mw-earth-vectordb/Imagery_Updates/imagery_updates.kml

But in some case it can take several days (weeks?) before the KML link gets updated…

The best imagery is (( Aerial View )) .. check google maps .. we wish all cities covered by this type !!

    • Chris says

      March 3, 2014 at 1:08 pm

You seem to be comparing aerial view in Bing maps with Google Maps, and, whilst Bing maps has some merits like delivering the 1:25,000 OS map in Great Britain or some neat Birds Eye imagery (also in certain cities in Google Maps), it bears no comparison with the content and extensive functionality of Google Earth.

I noticed a recent change to Google Earth/Maps roughly in the following location:
    43.097279, -117.793239
The new 2014 images are very blurry and of poor quality compared to what was there previously and the details shown at some of the non-updated maps in neighboring locations.
Why the poor quality in the new 2014 images???

    • David Timpe says

      April 5, 2014 at 8:51 pm

Absolutely huge. No wonder it took so long to do the KMZ. Now, we’re way overdue for another update. The only thing I’ve noticed is some of those satellite images involved in the search for Flight 370 have been placed in the Indian Ocean.

it ended up 200 miles north east of reunion island, near round island, tail landing ripping belly out from the wings back, and then being front heavy ,nose dived breaking the cockpit off back to the wings, in large debris area over 50 miles around, ROUND ISLAND. image data incorrect on google earth, on date 2009 – 2013 image page, but on historic date 25.3.2014.
