New Google Earth Imagery – October 21, 2013

It appears that Google has just pushed out a fresh batch of imagery! Thanks to sharp-eyed GEB reader ‘Munden’ for being the first to let us know about it.


This imagery has already arrived in Google Maps now, making it difficult to determine which is imagery is brand new.  Fortunately, we know a few of the area that have been updated, which include:

  • Belgium: Antwerpen, Brussels
  • Denmark: Espergaerde, Helsingor, Hillerod, Hundested, Frederikssund, Køge, Naestved, Holbaek
  • Estonia: Talinn
  • Iran: Bushehr, southern part of Tehran, Ta’sisat-e-Bandari-ye-Bahonar (naval base at Bandar Abbas)
  • Italy: Terni, Foligno, Arezzo, Montevarchi, Viterbo (partial), Viareggio, Lucca, Sorrento, Salerno, Nola, Mount Vesuvius, Portoferraio (entire island of Elba), Island of Giglio (including seeing the Costa Concordia undergoing attachment of the casements used to later float it), Island of Pianosa, Island of Capraia, Island of Gorgona
  • Turkey: Izmir
  • United States: California (Hollister), Colorado (Pueblo) Illinois (Danville), Indiana (Clinton, Rockville), Maine (Bath, Lewiston, Portland), Nebraska (Grand Island), Wisconsin (Wausau)

  12. The entire island of Zealand with the Capital Copenhagen in Denmark with images of 2012 and 2013.

  20. Part of Houghton, and most of Keweenaw County, MI (excluding Isle Royale). Everything east of Calumet-Laurium and Lake Linden is from August 19, 2013 (and much higher resulution than the old images). Not much in the way of towns, but very scenic.

  22. I don’t know whether it’s related to this update or happens on its own schedule, but Detroit now has the “new” 3D.

    • Not all of the city limits are covered, and most of the suburbs aren’t, but downtown Windsor, Ontario is. There’s also a “hole in the earth” just north of 8 Mile Rd, in Hazel Park.

  23. Sacramento also got updated

  24. Many large areas update in Japan. Specifically Osaka, Fukuoka, Mito

    Looks like Northwestern New Jersey got an update from September 2013.

  27. KMZs ARRIVE ! At last, the updates reported in this post and comments appear to be covered by one KMZ dated 17 October and one dated 22 October, both appearing in ‘latest imagery’ in the layers sidebar today. So the delay and irregularity in Google’s release of update information seems to be back with us.
