New Google Earth Imagery – January 18

Thanks to a tip from GEB reader ‘Anthony’, we’ve learned that Google has just pushed out a fresh imagery update!

As is almost always the case, you can use Google Maps to determine for sure whether or not a specific area is fresh. This new imagery isn’t in Google Maps yet, so you can compare Earth vs. Maps to see what’s new; the fresh imagery is already in Google Earth, but the old imagery is still in Google Maps. If you compare the two side-by-side and they’re not identical, that means that you’ve found a freshly updated area in Google Earth!
Some of the updated areas include:

  • Argentina: Buenos Aires, Punta Alta
  • France: Chambery
  • India: Agra, Aurangabad, New Delhi
  • New Zealand: Christchurch (thanks ‘Anthony’)
  • United Arab Emirates: Dubai (thanks ‘Munden’)
  • United States: Georgia (Atlanta), Louisiana (New Orleans)

If you find any other updated areas, please leave a comment and let us know!

  1. Bucharest (Romania) was updated.

  2. Athens, Greece

  3. The new Bucharest imagery is full of clouds.
Also, there is new imagery of the new site of Transalpina Ski Resort near Vidra Lake in Vâlcea county.

  4. In Macedonia:
    Skopje (7/1/2012),
    Tetovo & Gostivar (6/28/2012).

  5. Hi. I’ve notice that Google still has not done any major updates for the United States.
Most images outside of major cities are still from between 2008 and 2010.

  6. Bad Honnef / Königswinter, Germany

  7. The little port town of Skagway, Alaska finally has imagery. This is the first time Skagway has had imagery since Google Earth/Google Maps began.

  8. Updated aerial imagery for Richmond, VA and Savannah, GA. Also, new 45 degree angle imagery for Savannah, GA on Google Maps.

  9. Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia

  10. Bucharest, Constanţa, Sinaia (Romania)
Google Aerial View (45° Imagery) on Google Maps

  11. @ionelus: Constanța already had 45 Imagery from previous update.

  12. An in Sinaia, oddly enough I can’t see any 45° Imagery. The zoom goes to max (there’s no high resolution imagery available in the zone).

  13. nagylaszlo71 says:

    Romania, Dumbrava-Faget-Margina, with A1 😉

  14. nagylaszlo71 says:

    Romania, Tg-Mures, dark-snowy imagery, and also a worst-dark-snowy historical imagery dated 11/22/2012

  15. playtodie says:

    Australia : Perth, Melbourne, Bathurst(but in b&w)
-Punta del Este, Uruguay (dated from 2010)
    -Singapore (image is kinda twisted)
-surroundings of Bogota (but in b&w)
    -Halifax, Canada

  16. Anyone from Africa?

  17. Rochester, NY

  18. Many places in Greenland have been updated too, but only in black/white as in other places around the World.
Looks like Google want to be like Apple with awfull images (cloudy images, black and white etc.)
And still they place new image in the history or older images in the standard mode.

  19. Alberta, Canada: parts of St. Albert, and Edmonton west of 142nd St.

  20. The KMZ for 15 January imagery is available.
Two areas of new imagery it shows in the UK (Carlisle and Isle of Lewis) are in grainy black and white, taking us back to what photographic interpreters had to use in World War II, and it’s not even in stereo pairs.
Google, why do this, when there is excellent quality new imagery elsewhere in GE.

  21. Eastern side of the Great Belt Bridge has benn uploaded back to the 2005 image. WHY???
Like Chris say, Why in the hole wide World does Google do that?
Is Google going to be like Apple Maps or has Apple taken over Google Maps?
Right now they are as silly with their maps as Apple.

  22. If Google made their own computers it would be like Apple with only 4 colors and 2 sounds. (beep and some weird fart noise)
    Google since 2008 has downgraded.

  23. As soon as I typed the second sentence about Google the blog suddenly slowed to a crawl almost refusing to let my post thru.

  24. Mumbai, India is also updated

  25. Greece: The Rhodope mountain area has been updated from a mostly 2004 imagery to a 10/2010 one.
