New Google Earth Imagery – May 4

Thanks to sharp-eyed GEB reader ‘Andre’, it appears that Google has just pushed out a fresh imagery update.

As is almost always the case, you can use Google Maps to determine for sure whether or not a specific area is fresh. This new imagery isn’t in Google Maps yet, so you can compare Earth vs. Maps to see what’s new; the fresh imagery is already in Google Earth, but the old imagery is still in Google Maps. If you compare the two side-by-side and they’re not identical, that means that you’ve found a freshly updated area in Google Earth!

  • Austria: Vienna
  • Gambia: Near the coast
  • Germany: Flensburg, GieBen
  • Italy: Mugello
  • Mongolia: Nalayh
  • United States: New Mexico (Albuquerque), North Carolina (Greensboro, High Point, Winston-Salem), Texas (Camp Wood, Leakey, Utopia, Uvalde)

If you find any other updated areas, please leave a comment and let us know!

  9. where one can get update kmz. file?

  10. You can get the updates KML here:
It’s a self updating KML with links to all the previous updates, and in the next days will show the latest update (currently has April 17th as the newest). Just keep it in your marks, and you will always have acess to them.

Helena, MT, USA got some beautiful, new, hi-res imagery too!

  12. Konispol, Albania (7/9/2010).

  13. Sortlan, Norway (previously low res)

  14. Great Update in Germany.
There is a 60×40 miles high-res patch covering the cities of Stuttgart, Reutlingen, Heilbronn and Pforzheim from March 2012 in the historical imagery.
Also nice to see, that after some years they started working with AeroWest again, with super high res aerial images from 2010-2011 of:
Flensburg, Giessen, Castrop-Rauxel, Dinslaken, Gladbeck, Radolfzell am Bodensee, Göppingen, Erlangen, Bad Homburg, Selm and Emden (also Herne, available in the historical imagery)

  15. Why kml file has not been updated yet? It’s still 17th April

  16. Either it is a rather large update, or they might have a problem. The imagery in GE is already available in the historical layer (which is usually the last step in the imagery update), but is still not available in Google Maps. So they must have delayed the release of the kml until Maps is updated too.

  17. The kml has been updated!
