Stonehenge in High-Res in Google Earth Now

April 19, 2006

One of the areas not detailed in the update from the 18-April-2006 database update to Google Earth is that Stonehenge and the surrounding area have been updated to a higher-resolution satellite photo. You can now clearly see the stones of Stonehenge. See this placemark for Stonehenge .
[UPDATE 2008: If you turn on the 3D Buildings layer, there is now an excellent 3D rendering of Stonehenge in Google Earth as well.]
Thanks to ‘Cyclonic’ at the Google Earth Community for alerting me to this undocumented update. I will report more analysis of the new data during the day tomorrow.

Contrary to what’s written above, the Google Earth image for Stonehenge is dated “Aug 14, 2004”, and the resolution is awful.
Can someone please explain what’s happened to the more recent image?
