New Google Earth Imagery - November 26

Google Earth has just rolled out some fresh imagery for us! Thanks to GEB reader 'f00tix' for being the first to let us know about it.

atlanta.jpg

As is almost always the case, you can use Google Maps to determine for sure whether or not a specific area is fresh. This new imagery isn't in Google Maps yet, so you can compare Earth vs. Maps to see what's new; the fresh imagery is already in Google Earth, but the old imagery is still in Google Maps. If you compare the two side-by-side and they're not identical, that means that you've found a freshly updated area in Google Earth!

Wrong information:
- Toruń, Poland - it's not New Google Earth Imagery, the same are in Google MAps and Earth.

Posted by: Wojtuś at November 26, 2011 4:15 PM

Are all the Imagery Updated all at once? or you update an area and 5 minutes later, you update another area? I was just wondering

Poland:

- Żuławy Wiślane, Poland (area from Gdańsk to Elbląg)

Message in Polish to @Jakub i @Wojtuś
Ja mu napisałem, że chodzi o teren pomiędzy Płockiem, Toruniem, Warszawą i Gdańskiem, ale widać autor źle mnie zrozumiał.

MEXICO:

UK: Greenock, Scotland

Posted by: Munden at November 26, 2011 10:52 PM

Northern Ireland: Bushmills

The imagery covers a huge area, but is rather low resolution. It looks like they wanted to cover a large area with something better than the 15m Landsat images. (though it does cover up some other slightly better satellite images)

Posted by: Munden at November 26, 2011 10:59 PM

Okmulgee is in Oklahoma, not Arkansas

It's a bad habit of mine to not always pull out and double-check to see if I slipped across a State line.

Italy: Sarzana and Fivizzano

Posted by: Munden at November 27, 2011 1:16 AM

Italy: Anguillara Sabazia, Monterotondo, Albano Laziale, Bitonto, and San Giuliano Terme

These are Digital Globe satellite updates. Some are just single tiles while others are reasonably long strips.

Posted by: Munden at November 27, 2011 1:25 AM

South Korea: Mokpo

Note that there are quite a few areas in South Korea that have been given a color balance, but the image itself isn't new. Examples would be Masanhappo-gu, the Chinhae Naval Base (near Deoksan-dong), and the north-east part of Seoul.

Posted by: Munden at November 27, 2011 1:50 AM

Kuršumlija, Serbia (5/7/2011).

Posted by: Edi at November 27, 2011 4:57 AM

SCOTLAND - the new imagery in the Greenock/Dunfermline area west of Glasgow is very dark and of much lower quality than the imagery replaced - best to look at historical imagery if you are interested in this area - and it raises the continuing issue of quality control at GE (does anyone look at this stuff?)

IRELAND - despite a patch of new medium res, over coloured imagery in the Coleraine area, but not the strip containing the town, the imagery in nearly all parts of Ireland is still a mess, surprising when there is complete Street View coverage, and improvement is overdue.

The KML/KMZ for the 25 November updates has arrived.

What it shows is very disappointing as much of the new imagery in Germany, France and elsewhere in Europe is much darker, much less coloured, and is no higher res than the imagery replaced and still viewable as 'historic' (as previous comment re Ireland).

No explanation from Google of course, but can any GEB reader throw more light on what is going on?

Posted by: Chris at November 28, 2011 3:34 PM

HA!
NOW they updated the KMZ with the new Imagery from 10th of November!

Greatz, Andreas

Posted by: Andreas Möller at November 29, 2011 4:26 AM

@ Andreas - not yet in the automatically delivered updates in the 'my places' section of layers ... very confusing ... or is it all in the 25 November KMZ ?

Posted by: Chris at November 29, 2011 10:23 AM

@Chris - The new imagery from 10th of November and 25th of November are both in the "25 November" Folder of the Google KMZ.

Posted by: Andreas Möller at November 29, 2011 12:53 PM

Can you please update an area in Central Connecticut? Its been over a year.

Posted by: Jonahrf at November 29, 2011 3:52 PM

The 10th of November-update still is a strange thing. Three towns in France were mentioned in your blogpost as being part of that update:
- Libourne
- Naucelle
- Bourgoin-Jallieu
When I visit these towns in GE now, I see the imageray is dated:
- Libourne: 7-3-2011
- Naucelle and Bourgoin-Jallieu: 15-4-2011

So the imagery is from spring 2011. But if I open all the previous updates of 2011 (from January till now) in the imagery_updates.kml, I do not find these places as being updated this year.

So they have been updated without ever being part of the KML. Strange....
