Thanks to sharp-eyed GEB reader ‘Jorge’, we see that Google has just released some fresh imagery into Google Earth!

As is usually the case, you can use Google Maps to determine for sure whether or not a specific area is fresh. This new imagery isn’t in Google Maps yet, so you can compare Earth vs. Maps to see what’s new; the fresh imagery is already in Google Earth, but the old imagery is still in Google Maps. If you compare the two side-by-side and they’re not identical, that means that you’ve found a freshly updated area in Google Earth!

I’m not seeing any Street View updates yet, but the Google Maps interface for it got a visual change. The best way I can describe it is that the blue lines are all much wider than they used to be if you’re at a high ‘altitude’. I suspect that what they did was to remove any scaling based on how small the map is. i.e. the lines are nearly the same width if you’re looking at an entire State or just a part of a village.
For some reason theres new random places for Street View in Harrisonburg, VA. But when you enter those areas you see nothing but a giant camera error.
It’s about time they released some new imagery.
