Google Earth in even better stereo 3D

Nearly five years ago, Frank first told you about the TriDef Visualizer, which allows you to explore Google Earth in true 3D stereo with anaglyph glasses.
TriDef has recently released version 4.5 of their product which can do some fun stuff with Google Earth, so I decided to give it a try.
The Good
• 14 day fully functional trial version.
• Only requires normal anaglyph glasses (very inexpensive).
• Works in all modes of Google Earth, including Street View.

The Bad
• Being anaglyphic 3D, it’s not as sharp as what you see in new 3D movies.
• It simply refuses to work if you have multiple monitors on your system. Rather than mess with those settings, I ran it on my laptop instead.
That being said, it’s worth giving it a shot. If you need to get some glasses, you can find them on Amazon for virtually nothing and then go download the 14-day free trial of TriDef.
I certainly won’t use Google Earth like this very often, but it’s a fun trick!

  1. Yes, it’s not a sharp as what we can see in 3D movies. But it’s alright, it’s better.

Google Maps also has a 3D feature built-in when browsing Street View. Just enter Street View mode, right click the screen, and select “3D Mode On”.

  3. I have “Nvidia 3D Vision”, and enjoy Google Earth in 3D. Makes a lot of fun!

  4. Is it only this new version that doesn’t work with multiple monitors?
Because I have no problem with multiple monitors with the version on my computer now.
    Now I’m afraid to update.
(3D is the ONLY way to view Google Earth)

    To snakeye25,
Are you sure the 3D-viewing in Street View still is working?
I think it only was available some days last year.

    Hello Jan
At least here in Portugal it seems to be working.
Here’s a screenshot of the Eiffel Tower I just took:

    Hey snakeye25,
It works in Windows but not in my Mac. At least when using Safari.

  8. I am having the same problem as Jan. It works on a pc but not in Safari as well. Stange.

  9. There is one more stereo GE browser and it is free: http://stereo.jpn.org/eng/stge/stbrhelp.html
