New Google Earth Imagery – September 8

Google Earth has just rolled out some fresh imagery for us! Thanks to GEB reader ‘orb2222′ for being the first to let us know about it.

As is almost always the case, you can use Google Maps to determine for sure whether or not a specific area is fresh. This new imagery isn’t in Google Maps yet, so you can compare Earth vs. Maps to see what’s new; the fresh imagery is already in Google Earth, but the old imagery is still in Google Maps. If you compare the two side-by-side and they’re not identical, that means that you’ve found a freshly updated area in Google Earth!

Comments

  1. Zielona Góra and Gorzów Wielkopolski in Poland.

  2. I just came back from my holidays near Kołobrzeg ant the House is just outside the new Imagery. Too bad..
btw I’ve seen these updates at least 2 weeks ago, so i’s not really new.

  3. Paul — You’re correct that much of Poland was updated in the previous release. However, there is certainly some new imagery new today. Check out the city of Zielona Gora, for example. Fuzzy and ugly in Google Maps, and remarkably sharp in Google Earth — that’s where I grabbed the image for this post.

  4. Opole in Poland.

  5. Louisville, Kentucky US

  6. Paul I confirm what Mickey wrote. I live in Zielona Góra. Previous update imagery of August 24 didn’t include the Zielona Góra and Gorzow Wielkopolski. These cities has been updated today. BR

  7. Venezuela – Sucre, but it’s 2002

  8. Latacunga in Equador has “new” 2001 dated imagery.

  9. Google just continued to update Polish cities, also Warsaw, Lublin, Ostrów Wielkopolski, Toruń, the area between Jelenia Góra and Bolesławie in Lower Silesia.

  10. The Northwest Bay Area in California has new imagery dated 10-25-09.

  11. Quebec in Canada has new SPOT imagery of the southern part, Delaware has new imagery dated July 2010 for the whole state, Philadelphia has new imagery dated April 2010, Richmond in Virginia has new imagery with the same imagery date as Delaware, and new SPOT imagery in western Kyrgyzstan, extreme western China, and Sri Lanka.

  12. There is new imagery in Basque Country, Spain.

  13. Dover, DE USA July, 2010
    Spokane, WA USA May, 2009
    Houston, TX USA Jan, 2010

  14. Richmond, VA USA July, 2010

  15. Basque Country, Spain, 2009.

  16. Przemysl, PL

  17. Shiawassee County in Michigan USA, dated March 2009 seems to be new.

  18. More than 50 small updates in Russia.

  19. Maybe NOW it is preparing for Poland street view release :)

  20. Warsaw and all neighboring towns.

  21. Philadelphia is not new. It was changed in the July 4th update, and that imagery is still what we’re seeing.

  22. right, most of the stuff is new ;)

  23. USA: Fort Bliss, TX

  24. Dave Timpe says:

Yes, Shiawassee County is new. I looked at it only a week or two ago and these images are different. Why they have so many images in Michigan taken on April Fools day is hard to figure. You find that date a lot (some in Lansing are March 31, but that’s close). Grand Rapids is still smoggy-looking, though. Maybe I’ll have to hit that complaint site.

  25. Good to see improved coverage in Europe, particularly Poland again with its mix of boom areas and very traditional agricultural landscapes. But there’s been very little new in countries like Germany for a while, and London, although high res, has grainy, heavily shadowed coverage overdue for update. So maybe these places should get a turn soon.

  26. El paso texas 13th june 2010 imagery!!!

  27. The network link is updated with the September 7th imagery

  28. Interesting that they don’t list Fort Bliss, but it’s clearly different from Google Maps currently. The M-24 Hind helicopters are gone from the imagery which was from May 2008. The current imagery is June 2010.

  29. The network link shows that the area surrounding Christchurch, NZ (not the area inside the city boundary, which is higher quality) had an update which is dated the 3rd of Sept 2010 (UTC or Local time?). This would be the day before 7.1 earthquake. Is this a coincidence? or the is the data imagery from after the earthquake?
