New Update to Google Earth: Version 5.2.1.1547

Google has just pushed out version 5.2.1.1547, replacing version 5.2.1.1329 for most people. The "check for updates" feature doesn't seem to be finding it yet, but if you download Earth from their servers (earth.google.com), you'll get the new version.

As far as I can tell, there aren't any official release notes available yet. However, you can find a few tidbits about the release in this thread in the KML Developer Support group.

Based on that information, it seems that this release fixes a variety of bugs in regards to 3D/polygon handling. Grab the update here and if you notice any other changes, please leave a comment and let us know!

It seems to have fixed my "hole in the Earth" problem.

Hello, I noticed that the Terrain checkbox is no longer available, only in Options/3D View it is avalaible now, I don't know if that was on purpose, I hoped that in the newest version it repare but no.

Regards

This still doesn't fix the problem with Windows 7 64 bit being so VERY slow at displaying popups and internal web pages.

It still doesn't fix slow navigation and not following terrain on tilted view.

Yes, the rectangular "hole in the Earth" fixed on my side too. However, does anyone know how to restore the functionality of the middle mouse button? It stopped working in previous beta for me. Before that, I could press the middle button/wheel to tilt/rotate around (same as SHIFT + left button), now it is only a double-click. (Double click is what my wheel does when pressed, because I set it up in this manner; but some applications can override this, and Google Earth used to do it, but not anymore.)

Textures still appear blurry when viewed from a distance, small buildings pop up from nowhere,
the whole 3D engine is dated and needs modernising for latest generation hardware.

it would be nice if the texture of the earth's atmosphere have upgraded to a new level of up to 2.0 rendering!
and the land could see the moon!
I do not think that it is so difficult ...

Still has not fixed the street view crashing and glitches

I'm happy with GE 5.1.3534.0411 (build 26 March 2010) running on OSX 10.4, and don't want a built in browser. I was waiting for possible gains from any version of 5.2 to be spelt out, but I don't yet see anything significant. Am I missing something?

This new version appears to have fixed the 'crash on startup' problem on Linux Ubuntu 10.04

To install the latest Google Earth on Ubuntu, just type the following command in a terminal window:

wget http://dl.google.com/earth/client/current/GoogleEarthLinux.bin && chmod +x GoogleEarthLinux.bin && ./GoogleEarthLinux.bin

FYI for anyone haveing the Windows 7 x64 slowdown issues for Google Earth 5.2... I found that running the program as administrator (right click the icon, and select run as administrator (needs to be done ever time you launch) or right click the icon and select "Properties, then "Compatability", and then check the "Run this program as an administrator" check box, and then hit OK (this sets the program to run as administrator every time)., now all the little web links, and pop-ups, and street view pop right open like they did in 5.1.

Street view still crashes every 3rd photo or so which it *jumps* out of the bubble and you wind up using the google maps link.

(longer if it's a non high res picture*

Google Earth 5.2 loaded, but I get no desktop icomn or the program listed in the drop-down menu? If I try open from installed directory, nothing happens (program does not start)? What now?

When you load a kmz file with geo referenced jpeg images when you click on the thumbnail you get a blank square. You have to exit GE saving the file to My Places then re-open GE and the picture opens correctly when you click on the thumbnail. The jpeg's opened correctly in 5.1 from the temporary folder

I hope you make it so I can see my airplane in the flight simulator.
