New Google Earth Imagery - August 24

Google Earth has just rolled out some fresh imagery for us! Thanks to GEB reader 'ChrisK' for being the first to let us know about it.

As is almost always the case, you can use Google Maps to determine for sure whether or not a specific area is fresh. This new imagery isn't in Google Maps yet, so you can compare Earth vs. Maps to see what's new; the fresh imagery is already in Google Earth, but the old imagery is still in Google Maps. If you compare the two side-by-side and they're not identical, that means that you've found a freshly updated area in Google Earth!

[UPDATED -- 24-August, 10:28pm EST]

  • Argentina: Various cities -- thanks 'pertile' and '3done'
  • Chile: Puerto Montt -- thanks 'Munden'
  • Czech Republic: Most of the country -- thanks 'Dawid'
  • Poland: Many areas -- thanks 'Dawid', 'tomcioZG' and 'Chris'
  • United States:Pittsburgh, PA -- thanks 'ChrisK'
  • Venezuela: Cumanacoa -- thanks 'wroman'

Large scale update of Poland

Rzeszów, Tarnów, Bielsko-Biala, Lodz, northern Poland, Silesian cities (including Katowice), Poznan, Gdansk, Szczecin, Jelenia Gora, Nowy Sacz, Kraków, Czestochowa, Radom, Kielce, Bydgoszcz, etc.

Note: these are all major cities

Yes, huge update for Poland, in many places from the same date as in ZUMI site but of a bit lower resolution it seems. Czech Republic also seems different, much lighter.

Chris thank you for the information, it is very important for me. In spite of everything still missing in the upgrade other two major cities: Zielona Gora and Gorzow Wielkopolski. The whole time waiting for it. Cheers!

San Pedro, Buenos Aires Province, Argentina

I can also see lines for Paraná Delta, is that a new feature?

Looks like in the NYC area the new Baseball stadiums finally made it in, Citifield replacing Shea Stadium and New Yankee Stadium replaced the old one.

Now we need the New Meadowlands Stadium to replace the old Giants Stadium

It's kinda strange.
All major cities across Poland are available in higher definition.
But why cities like Gorzów Wielkopolski and Zielona Góra have to wait so long for the upscaling.

Posted by: jakubGW at August 24, 2010 6:35 PM

Czech Rebublic all across the country is updated.

@jakubGW. @TomcioZG - Lublin or Opole, both voivodeship capitals are not of better quality... Tricity is now very nice, GOP is for sure from the very same date as in zumi.pl, but google has now that imagery better than zumi in a few places.
