Venice in 3D and more Building Maker enhancements

A couple of neat bits of news for those of you that appreciate all of the 3D buildings in Google Earth.

First, Google has just released Venice, Italy in 3D. As with all of their recent 3D cities, Venice is stunning. The city is packed solid with 3D buildings and it looks very nice. Here's a brief video overview of the new additions:

In addition to that, Google has made some nice improvements to Building Maker. When creating your building, you now have the option of using your own photos to tile the buildings, rather than being forced to use the imagery that they provide. While this probably won't help in most cases, it will help some buildings coming out of Building Maker to look even better!

This new feature in Building Maker is ideal for the borders of coverage of Building Maker where only one side of buildings is not photographed.

So who did all this modeling work? Was it some initiative of the city, or from the Google Earth team somehow? Any suggestions for getting other cities covered?

Just visted Venice and I must say that your efforts have really done a fantastic job, this way it's a little easier for me to imagine I am still there :(
