Google Releases Street View in Switzerland, Portugal, and Taiwan
Started getting comments last night from GEB readers (first was 'Steven') about the release of Street View imagery for Switzerland, Portugal, and Taiwan. Switzerland has most of the populated areas covered. In the case of Taiwan, the new imagery is focused around Taipei. In Portugal, the focus is on Lisbon and Porto. Here is a screenshot from Google Earth of Porto, Portugal:

Here are instructions for using Street View in Google Earth. The advantage to Google Earth is comparing views to 3D buildings and terrain, and looking for more information about sites with the GE layers. The interface for Street View in Google Maps is a little easier to share in blogs, and tweets thanks to the embed feature. First, here is a coverage map for Street View around the world:
And, here are a few Street View shots from Taiwan and Switzerland:
And here is a shot from Switzerland:

STREET VIEW IN MAPS OR EARTH?
In areas of the UK where bandwidth is limited, one apparent advantage of SV in Maps is that it makes less demand on bandwidth (is this technically correct?) and crashes are much rarer than with SV in GE. The blue outlines in Maps are also a good clear indication of SV coverage in Maps at all scales.

There's a little problem with Street View on Google Maps. Check out the Swiss town of Basel, it's not covered in bleu.

Well, well, Switzerland really is *all that*. In fact, the stunningly gorgeous scenery is so abundant its nearly monotonous. I've been ruined for any other country now ...

what puzzles me is that SV germany is late to the game...
since google has to host the SV germany footge in a german based server & the footage has to be available blurred only, the original with unblurred faces and license plates has to be deleted...

If you go along the street to the foot of the tall building in the centre Taipei shot, you will see a whole lot of people holding up Google logos.
